Under Unprecedented Circumstances, Members of Living United for Change in Arizona to Virtually Meet with ArizonaLegislators During Our Annual Lobby Day

LUCHA Members from across Arizona are coming together for the 4th annual Lobby Day. Every year, since 2018, LUCHA members and staff have the opportunity to learn about the legislative process, attend training sessions, meet with legislators, and advocate on issues that impact working families in Arizona.

PHOENIX — This year our Lobby Day will be done completely virtually as we are still living through this pandemic. In prior Lobby Day, LUCHA members would directly meet with lawmakers to discuss legislative priorities. This year those meetings with members of the AZ House and Senate will take place virtually via zoom. In this year’s legislative session we are excited to introduce the People’s First Economy (PFE), a state and federal campaign, demanding that our government invest in our communities. After years of going ignored and underfunded, LUCHA and community members through deep listening sessions have unearthed many programs that have been neglected, leaving the community injured with no social programs to support them. PFE is one of the first economic policy campaigns that has been shaped directly by community voices.

In addition to PFE we will be discussing the introduction of Paid Family and Medical Leave Bill HB2858. Which provides 24 weeks of paid leave each year, funded by employer and employee contributions for private-sector workers, including gig workers, contract workers, and the self-employed. LUCHA members will also be advocating for direct relief to Arizonans struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic, affordable housing along with protecting voting rights. Lobby Day will also include a press conference to discuss in greater detail the People’s Budget, our Paid Family Medical Leave Bill, and other legislative priorities. This event begins at 12 pm and lasts approximately 30 minutes. Our virtual event will be open to the press to observe the unique advocacy work LUCHA is doing in a pandemic and our press conference. If you are interested in joining us look below for RSVP details.
